Newspaper Report Writing

Last term Room 12 learnt all about report writing. We continued to learn about the effects of plastic pollution on the Earth during learning pathways and decided to write a newspaper report. It would report about the effects of rubbish, especially plastic on seabirds. Here are some of the students work to share.

Poor sea bird dies from eating rubbish.

Sea birds are dying because they are eating rubbish that people are leaving behind. People do not know where the rubbish goes and the birds eat the rubbish. Marine animals are dying because we are not thinking about what we are doing to them by throwing rubbish around.

Humans are throwing  rubbish away on the floor.  When it rains it carries the rubbish into the sea. Animals are dying because people do not think about what will happen to the animals if they eat it.

They are dying because people are lazy and they do not care where the rubbish goes. Vince Marsters from Bairds Mainfreight Primary School thinks “It is disgusting to throw away your rubbish onto the ground because it travels out to sea and kills the birds. Be a tidy kiwi”

People should pick up rubbish and recycle plastic and cardboard.  If you see rubbish on the side of the road pick it up even if it not yours. People should encourage their families to recycle and throw their rubbish in the right place and the right bin. They should also teach the younger one how to recycle too.If you see people  wasting their food tell them to give it to the needy people or compost it. Make a club that you go around the streets to pick up rubbish.
Amos Va’a, another student from Bairds Mainfreight Primary School shared his concerns and said “It’s kind of sad because humans are throwing rubbish and animals think that what we are throwing is food to them”. People should be throwing their rubbish into the bin instead of throwing it on the ground because they could cause a lot of death to animals and pollution in the sea.

People are harming animals because they are not making good choices by throwing rubbish in the incorrect bin. Seabirds are dying because they are eating rubbish thinking it is food. If you are about to throw your rubbish on the ground stop and think about  how many seabirds you could kill!
